Upwardly Mobile with Crest Lifts

Crest Lifts service and repair passenger and goods lifts for businesses in and around London and the South East of England.   Always looking to improve efficiency, cut costs and offer the best service to its customers, Crest was keen to embrace the benefits of mobile technology.  

Initially they equipped engineers with digital pen technology which used mobile phones; digital pens and special digitised paperwork to record site visit information.  This technology proved to be very unreliable for Crest with incorrect transcribing and poor reliability to get the information back to the office as well as issues with having to carry the pads, mobiles and pens around.  Having experienced the benefits of mobile technology, Crest were on the lookout for a more robust and reliable solution.

The Solution 
With thousands of lifts under their charge, Crest use Liftdata, a well established industry specific software system, to manage their operation smoothly. Crest learnt that Appstation were offering Motivity™ - a wireless handheld technology system using PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) linking directly to the Liftdata software.  Appstation had been working in partnership with Eyedearz Design, the developers of Liftdata, to provide the full feature PDA system that could be used by field engineers to:

- Receive full repair and breakdowns jobs ‘out in the field’.
- Manage their service routes
- Raise out of hours call outs                                      
- Record what work was undertaken and capture customer signatures
- Produce and store electronic job sheets back at the office.

Following initial demonstrations in Spring 2008 and free trial with their own staff, Crest were pleased with results and the system went live in June 2008.

The Result
Kevin Lynch, MD and Owner of Crest reported that “To date we have enjoyed the use of the electronic format of Liftdata hosted with Appstation who provide us with extremely good support. Appstation has tweaked the system to suit our requirements and we are confident that they will refine the system for continual improvement” – which is great news for Crest and their customers.  Kevin concluded that the investment in the PDA technology was far outweighed by the financial savings in administration and people costs without taking into account the increase in efficiency and customer service that gives them an advantage over their competitors.
